The Omega 3 metabolic pathway – Interesting facts
Omega 3 is a group of fatty acids.
In this group there are three Omega 3 fatty acids – ALA, EPA , DHA
(Alpha Linolenic Acid) ALA is the first step of the metabolic process of creating EPA and DHA.
For example in nature the ALA resides in Plankton (drifting organisms who lives in the oceans) only cold fish which fed from Plankton can produce EPA and DHA in their liver.
Another good example is our human body – Recent clinical
studies have shown that adequate intake of ALA supports in achieving
sufficient levels of EPA and DHA in the human body.
